Childrens book author Chez Rafter

Most mornings my day starts litter picking the Palm Beach canals and Tallebudgera Creek in my kayak.

I not only litter-pick myself but I write about it too. I’m a children’s book author educating kids about plastic pollution in the environment. ‘The Rubbish Rebellion’ book series.

The rubbish I collect consists of plastic bags, food wrappers, bottles, styrofoam, balls, rope, and fishing line, these appear to be most common. Every picture tells a story and litter picking can also be fun, so follow me on Instagram to see my daily litter pics.

Removing rubbish from the waterways leaves me with the satisfaction that I am contributing to easing this threat harming our marine life. Ocean conservation is my passion and misplaced rubbish is pollution. This has a huge impact on mammals, wildlife, and human health. We must all contribute and preserve our most precious aquatic ecosystems, plastic pollution has become a global issue. Every little litter pick helps, even if it’s one piece a day!  Doing this will reward you with the knowledge that you are helping our planet for future generations to enjoy. Since December 2018 I have collected over 400 dog balls, which I have cleaned and re-homed with the animal shelter.

More balls for 2020
